MEETING  REPORT  - ITALY

·         Dissemination of the project
The meeting in Italy has started with an official opening,  as we called it, Erasmus Day, as dissemination of the work done so far within our area. Many schools have been  invited to welcome our partners and teams together with local authorities and Regional department of Education.

·         Teaching/learning/training activities
According to the project, the teaching/ learning / training activity in Italy has been carried out on Robotics. We have proposed a short introduction on what robotic has been  throughout the years. Students participating to the meeting  have been followed by a professional , who held a questionnaire at the beginning and the other one on the last day of the session in order to show the impact on them. Here it is  the program of the activities planned
6/11 at 3:30 pm
Robotic Toys: a brief presentation about a project developed in our school, with references to Antique Automata and Modern Robotics.
6/11 at 4:30 pm
The VEX IQ Robot kit and The Lego Mindstorms NXT KIT; Key Terms; Sensor Overview; Smart Machines Matching Exercise. Using the MODKIT software for VEX IQ ROBOTICS.
6/11 at 5:30 pm
Laboratory with the VEX IQ Robot : describe polygons; Moving Forward and Backward; other …
10/11 from 9:30 to 11,30
Students will take part in building activities proposed: “Follow the building instructions to build the Robot Educator model.
10/11 from 11:30 to 13,30
Students will take part in programming activities proposed: Using the NXT-G software for the Lego Mindstorms .

The activities have been organized in order to gain , gradually, a more and deeper knowledge on how to program and use a robot. Students have been invited to read a guide , to reduce the difficulties on the specific language, and only after that, they went through the Lego session. Learning by doing was our aim from the very beginning of the session. Their enthusiasm in programming a robot has  been fully accomplished when they programmed , divided in groups, how to give order to a robot. In fact, clapping their hands, they have been able to  stop or move the robot.
After having gained a deeper knowledge on robotic , the session proceeded with a CAD-CAM activity, in which, with the help of an engineer , who teaches in our school, they have learnt how to draw and realize an object. They realized in 3D the Logo of the project that has been given to each school partner as a memory of the session, together with a metal object produced in that Lab.

·         Implementation
To obtain a real success in the L/T7T activities  we have organized a seminar to the University of Calabria – www.unical.it   to show students how robotics is important in our life, at the Engineering Department of Mechanics and Robotics, where Professor Fortino, responsible of the Labs and Responsible of foreign Internship, gave us a superb session on how in few years our life will change. He in fact  has explained us some studies they are carrying about the benefit of robotic in Health. They are studying  for example how, the chair we sit, can give us information on our health and our diseases. Robotic can control our future life, but not in a negative way, only in order to help all of us to prevent or reduce illness. After three hours sessions, students were absolutely fascinating by this new way of thinking and the new perspectives proposed.
·         Culture and food
During the meeting in Italy a visit has been organized to Santa Severina, proposed in our agenda as,” Our roots- Our story” ,  in order to show all partners some aspects of our culture, where sacred and profane , during medieval times, where joined in the same square. Food and history have created the perfect atmosphere to enjoy all partners.
